New Razer Blade Pro (2. Review & Rating. Last year's version of the Razer Blade Pro blew us away with its high- quality build and stunning display, delivering top- end gaming capability in a premium (though pricey) package. This year's update ($3,9.

Directed by Ruben Östlund. With Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss, Dominic West, Terry Notary. The Square is a poignant satirical drama reflecting our times - about the.

Kaby Lake processor inside, and the screen color profile and audio are certified by THX, the audiovisual company famously founded by George Lucas and now owned by Razer. The increased benefits for multimedia, plus the speed boost from the new processor, make this a modest refresh of a fantastic gaming laptop. The changes aren't revolutionary, however, so you shouldn't upgrade from last year's Blade Pro, and the competition is only getting more fierce. If you prefer slightly more power and a lot of storage over the sleeker, but still sizable, form factor of the Blade Pro, the Alienware 1. R4 is an appealing alternative, while the Asus ROG Zephyrusis a truly portable high- end option. Same Sleek Silhouette.

As with the previous iteration, the Blade Pro is one of the best- feeling pieces of hardware I've ever held. It just feels like a premium product. This version is physically identical to the last, with the same sleek black all- aluminum body, which measures 0. HWD) and weighs 7. It's still one of a kind given the power it holds. But the competition is getting closer. The Alienware 1. 7 is just over an inch thick, but weighs 9.

Nvidia's Max- Q technology. Used to design laptops like the ROG Zephyrus, Max- Q enables high- end graphics cards to fit in much smaller bodies by managing their heat and power demands through performance caps and new thermal solutions. Max- Q laptops will challenge Razer's place atop the powerful, thin gaming laptop pyramid, since they can offer greater power in smaller bodies than Razer's current offerings. Razer could create Max- Q laptops of its own, however, which is an exciting proposition. That said, some may still want the sprawling 1. Zephyrus lacks, and the Blade Pro's is gorgeous.

In fact, it's the main beneficiary of the THX integration, as the color and display profile is customized before shipping. The 4. K touch display of the previous generation is brilliant, with indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) technology for vibrant colors and a claimed 1. Adobe RGB color coverage. The THX- certified panel improves it further. According to Razer, the screens are tested for resolution, color accuracy, and smooth video playback. Color accuracy matters for users and professionals who need to represent real- life colors digitally for printing, photos, and more. Some profiles artificially alter colors by going for a certain look (think of your TV's Theater or Sports modes), but the Blade Pro's wasn't significantly altered, save for the color profile being on the cool side out of the box.

To get a quantitive conclusion of how the Blade Pro fares, I ran a color accuracy test on the display using Datacolor's Spyder. Elite colorimeter and software.

The results were very positive, posting 1. RGB coverage, 9. 1 percent NTSC coverage, and 9. Adobe RGB spectrum. That may be slightly short of the 1. Apple i. Mac (1. 00 percent s.

RGB, 8. 7 percent NTSC, 9. Adobe RGB). After running the software and activating the new profile, the colors were visibly warmer, but the display's overall coverage capability should give confidence to professionals. As for what a 4. K resolution means for content consumption, it's the same as with the previous Blade Pro.

The screen shows photos with high detail, and you can edit and view 4. K footage in its native resolution.

For gaming, it's not particularly ideal, even with the Nvidia GTX 1. Most less- strenuous games will run at 3. K, but reliable 6. GPU computer. You can turn down the resolution to QHD when playing modern titles to achieve 6. I prefer the former since it will still look plenty sharp.

The THX certification also extends to the audio jack, optimized for what Razer describes as a . I will admit to not expecting too much of a difference between the audio jacks on the 2. Blade Pro and the THX version before testing, but side by side comparisons did indeed demonstrate an improvement. Playing the same samples on each, I could hear that the THX Blade Pro was a little bit crisper and the bass was deeper, resulting in improved overall audio. Outside of the headset audio, its speakers are unchanged, and still perform admirably. Sci Fi Movies Dvd Leatherface (2017). They're loud and clear, if a bit lacking in bass, but they don't distort at high volumes. I'm still not a fan of the speaker grilles' look, as they slightly blemish the Pro's sleek aesthetic for me, but it's a minor complaint.

The keyboard's customizable backlit keys are mechanical, and are low profile enough to not jeopardize the laptop's slim form, but have more tactile feedback than standard keys. The keyboard feels excellent, and the touchpad (also trimmed in customizable lighting) is equally well- built and tracks smoothly. Its position to the right of the keyboard re- creates the typical mouse and keyboard desktop (though is unfortunate for lefties), and I got used to it after short adjustment—I don't try to type and pan simultaneously, anyway. The volume scroll wheel located just above the touchpad is also handy.

Connectors include two USB 3. Ethernet port, and the audio jack on the left, with another USB 3. HDMI connection, an SD card slot, and a USB- C with Thunderbolt 3 port on the right.

Inside the laptop, there's Bluetooth 4. Killer. Double. Shot Pro, which prioritizes different programs' use of the Ethernet connection and the 8. Our unit is the base model, which comes with 5. GB of storage via two 2.

GB SSDs in a RAID 0 array. You can order the 1. TB version (two 5.

GB SSDs) for $4,3. TB model (two 1. TB SSDs) for $4,8.

Other than the storage sizes, everything else is equal across these models. Razer supports the Blade Pro and all its laptops with a one- year warranty. High- End Speed. The New Blade Pro's processor is the other big change from the last model, jumping from a last- generation Intel Skylake chip to a Kaby Lake Core i. HK CPU. Its base clock speed is 2. GHz, with a 3. 9.

GHz Turbo and 4. 3. GHz overclock potential, which is great to have in a laptop if you need the extra speed, and it keeps the same 3.

GB of memory from the previous model. Given that the jump from the last- generation Intel CPU to the current one isn't massive, the gains over the 2. Blade Pro are modest, but scores were consistently better across general productivity benchmark PCMark 8 and the multimedia tests. Compared with competition like the ROG Zephyrus and the Alienware 1. New Blade Pro has the edge, though the Origin EON1. X 1. 0 Series (overclocked out of the box) leads the pack.

In terms of 3. D and gaming aptitude, the Blade Pro is still a top performer. The new processor doesn't change results too much in this area, and the numbers largely fall in line with the previous Blade Pro. That's good news, though, as the GTX 1.

The Zephyrus is much smaller thanks to the Max- Q design, but its GTX 1. Blade Pro's full version has the performance advantage. The EON1. 7, with its higher- clocked processor and bigger body (for more cooling), leads the pack, but the Blade Pro is right behind. It averaged 1. 18fps and 1. Heaven and Valley gaming tests at 1. K. If you need to lower some titles to QHD resolution to get more consistently smooth frame rates, that's an easy fix, but it will be able to play less- demanding games (and easily handle VR) at or above 3.

K. I will say, as with the previous version, the fans get very loud under load. They are bottom- facing, and, whirring at high speed to keep the large chassis cool, they make a consistently loud noise while playing. Most gaming laptops make noise, but the ROG Zephyrus gets credit for being especially quiet as a result of its thermal solutions and Max- Q graphics design, tweaked to consider acoustics. See How We Test Laptops. Battery life isn't a strong point: Due to the system's high- end components and power- hungry 4. K screen, it lasted 3 hours and 4.

TCL S Series 4k 2. S4. 05 Review (4.

S4. 05, 4. 9S4. 05, 5. S4. 05, 6. 5S4. 05)The TCL S4. Roku TV with decent picture quality and motion. It has low input lag and little motion blur, making it a great pick for video games.

Unfortunately, though, its viewing angle is quite narrow, and it doesn't get very bright, making it less suitable for well- lit environments. Update 8/1. 0/2. 01. Converted to Test Bench 1. The TV forces PC mode when it detects a PC input.

The review has been updated. It has a wide stand which requires quite a large table but supports the TV well. The borders have an average thickness but look fine. There is a bit of a gap before the beginning of the picture. Max Thickness. 2.

It will stick out a bit if wall mounted. Maximum Temperature. The top half of the back is metal, but the bulk of the TV is plastic (including the borders). This won't present problems during use but doesn't feel as premium as other high end TVs, or even the Le.

Eco Super. 4. The TCL S Series 4k LED TV has a better than average picture quality. When set in a dark room, blacks look deep and dark scenes from movies are reproduced very well thanks to the great native contrast ratio and the excellent black uniformity. When set in a bright room with more lighting, the S4. The viewing angle is also not that good and the best picture quality is only reserved for a narrow zone in front of the TV. The gray uniformity could be better and dirty screen effect is noticeable. Finally, HDR is average and the lack of a wide color gamut, low HDR peak brightness, and lack of local dimming doesn't make HDR content stand out.

Contrast. Native Contrast. Contrast with local dimming. The TCL S4. 05 has a very good native contrast ratio for a LED TV. With over a 4. 00. S4. 05 contrast ratio is over what we consider to be a good value for a TV and will procure deep enough blacks to make dark scene pleasant to watch, especially when the TV is set in a bright room. In comparison, this is a small improvement over the 2.

TCL US5. 80. 0. 0. Local Dimming. Local Dimming. The TCL S4. 05 does not have a local dimming feature.

The video is for reference only. The brightness does remain unchanged no matter the scene shown, which is good.

The edges of the screen are slightly dimmer than the center, as seen by the lower real scene brightness. This brightness is very similar to the lower tier TCL S3. P6. 07. 4. 8. HDR Peak Brightness. HDR Real Scene Peak Brightness.

HDR Peak 2% Window. HDR Peak 1. 0% Window.

HDR Peak 2. 5% Window. HDR Peak 5. 0% Window. HDR Peak 1. 00% Window. HDR Sustained 2% Window. Watch The Star (2017) The Movie Full Version. HDR Sustained 1. 0% Window.

HDR Sustained 2. 5% Window. HDR Sustained 5. 0% Window.

HDR Sustained 1. 00% Window. HDR ABL. Plot over time. Bad HDR peak brightness, highlights in HDR will not be shown much brighter than the rest of the scene. The brightness does remain consistent no matter the scene due to the TV's lack of CE dimming, which is good. This brightness is a lot lower than the more expensive TCL P6. Gray Uniformity. 50% Std.

There is also a large darker band on the top of the screen with some smaller vertical one that is a bit warmer/dirtier than the rest of the screen. Dirty screen effect is visible when watching some specific content like hockey of football, where there are large panning shots over a uniform surface. For normal content like movies or TV show, dirty screen effect is less of a problem though. Looking at our 5% test picture, we can see that both sides are a bit brighter than the center, but this is not really a uniformity problem, but more a visual effect due to the narrow viewing angle. Viewing Angle. LCD Type. Blacks become gray and colors shift when the TV is viewed from even a small angle, while brightness decreases more gradually at an angle. This TV is not well suited for a room where people will be often viewing the TV from the side.

Black Uniformity. Native Std. Looking at the black uniformity test picture, we can see some clouding near the top and bottom edge but luckily, this is really faint and does not really affect our test result and also it did not show up in dark scene while looking at regular video content. Note that here, the black level of the test picture doesn't look that deep, but here the test is evaluating the uniformity of the screen and not the black level. Gradient. Color Depth.

The S4. 05 can display our test gradient very smoothly and without any banding normally seen on 8- bit panels. Some little imperfection can be seen on the dark green and toward the end of the dark grayscale, but this is very minimal. Banding in HDR movies was not a problem and the performance is very good overall. Pre Calibration. White Balance d. E. Out of the box, the TCL S4. Overall, the colors are tracking their target pretty well and the white balance and gamma too, which is pretty good. At this level of accuracy, a calibration would not be needed and could be used as is in most case.

Post Calibration. White Balance d. E. After calibration, the TCL S4. TV we ever reviewed.

At this level of accuracy, most imperfections are not even noticeable. Since the TV was already very accurate out of the box, the calibration was done in a breeze and no real issues came up during the process. Like other TCL TVs, the calibration is only possible via the mobile apps and is one of the easiest methods available from all the major brand of TV we have worked with. The 1. 1 points white balance control and the color space control are fairly responsive and procure a very easy way to do the calibration. You can see our recommended settings here. Input. Upscaling of low- quality content such as DVDs is good.

As with other TCL TVs, the image isn't too soft and details are preserved. Input. 72. 0p sources such as cable are upscaled well. Details remain clear. Input. 10. 80p content such as Blu- rays look sharp and detailed.

Input. No issues can be seen with native 4k content. Color Gamut. Wide Color Gamut.

Narrow color gamut, only good enough for SDR content. The true color gamut is shown by the maximum red, green and blue in the Rec 2.

All other colors in the Rec 2. P3 colors are shown horribly undersaturated, likely because the TV is prioritizing brightness over color accuracy because the TV is so dim.

These tests were done at 7. Most colors in HDR content will be at a dim stimulus and have decent accuracy, but very bright colors will have poor accuracy.

This test was done with the 'Gamma' set to '2. TV's advanced picture settings in the Roku app; at the default 'Gamma' of '2. EOTF was dimmer than the PQ curve, shown here, and shown here with 'Game Mode' enabled. Users can change this 'Gamma' setting to suit the brightness of their room. Color Volume. Normalized DCI P3 Coverage ITP. The TV's color gamut narrows significantly when showing very dark saturated colors, which is visible in both color volumes. The color gamut remains full for bright saturated Rec 2.

P3 colors, likely due to the TV's tone mapping prioritizing brightness over color accuracy because the TV is so dim. Image Retention. IR after 0 min recovery. IR after 2 min recovery.

IR after 4 min recovery. IR after 6 min recovery. IR after 8 min recovery. IR after 1. 0 min recovery. No image retention could be detected on the TCL S4. TVs that use VA panels. Reflections. Reflection.

Screen Finish. Semi- gloss. The reflection handling of the TCL S Series is okay. It has a semi- gloss finish which causes reflections to appear larger, diffused across the screen. This does help to reduce their intensity slightly though. For an average room it's ok, but in a bright room, the reflections are distracting. D3. D. The TCL S4. D as the rest of TCL lineup.

The response time is great, resulting in a very short trail following fast moving objects. The image flickers at all backlight settings, but since the backlight flickers at 1. Hz, this is not noticeable for most people. Black frame insertion cannot be used with this TV, so fast motion will always be affected by some eye tracking blur. This TV can play 2.
